Picture: Barry Peelo. Watergrasshill United 6 City Wanderers 3. In fairly tough conditions, both sides must be commended for producing a cup-tie that had plenty of quality finishing in it. The Hill threatened again when Brendan Maloney threaded one through for Sean Desmond, but Lydon was swiftly off his line in the nick of time to collect. A dinking ball into space from Maloney looked destined for the available Dylan McCarthy, but a fortunate bounce fell kindly for Robert Leydon to abort the danger.
Spriggs then had to deal with a swerving cross from Colm Pearson before a delightful looping pass by Andrew Desmond played in Sean Desmond who stroked past Leydon to make it on Three minutes later, it was to Watergrasshill when Conor Krol fed Sean Desmond who fired past Lydon and complete his hat-trick. Wanderers refused to be bowed and when Nick Lamonov found Eric Marah to his left, the Wanderers skipper made Spriggs work to save from his solid low effort.
Brendan Maloney won good possession before releasing Sean Desmond who failed to beat Lydon with his angled effort. And it was at the break when Nick Lamonov latched on to a ball over the top before guiding past Spriggs to fire Wanderers right back into the contest again. With the second period just one minute in, Eric Marah was denied the equaliser when Spriggs produced a solid block from his stinging strike.
And when Jehan crossed low, Charley Grainger just failed to get a vital touch near the far post while unattended. Wanderers were to rue those chances as they fell further behind when the unmarked Sean Desmond was accorded time to pick his spot to the corner and make it on But, it was when Dylan Field set up Adam Murphy who blasted his effort into the corner on Although Wanderers got a third through David Reardan, Chris Healy had the final say when his pile-driver from 25 yards out soared into the net in the dying moments.
