Last summer, we decided to hit the road and keep it in the Commonwealth. I'm a native Kentuckian, but there are parts of the Bluegrass that have never seen my smiling face. So it was time to correct that. We made a beeline for Williamsburg KY and a cozy little Airbnb that served nicely as a home base. Then it was off to Appalachia. Cumberland Gap was breathtaking; I was reminded of what I felt like the first time I approached the rim of the Grand Canyon.
That feeling is palpable. Poisonous serpents made for a nice aside in Slade KY. And, of course, we visited Cumberland Falls. It was my second trip, and the next time I'm close by, there will be a third trip. On my first visit in , I thought the falls looked like a gigantic chocolate milk fountain. Sounds like something a kid would think, right? Although, as a grown-up, I still don't object to the concept. But, during a summer visit, it was beautiful, green, and calm.
