They say the problem is getting worse and officials say the issue is an environmental health risk. Police and residents tell 23ABC it's a hotspot for prostitution and health officials said it is a public health concern.
Residents in the area of U and 2nd Streets in central Bakersfield did not want to go on camera over safety concerns, but they said they are seeing an increase of prostitution after the sun goes down.
Nathan McCauley said. During their undercover operations officials are also discovering that a lot of the people are not actually from Bakersfield. Residents in the area say they have made several police reports and they have even tried to hose down or dispose of the left behind paraphernalia themselves, but public health officials say this could be a source of disease transmission and should be handled by the City of Bakersfield. Bakersfield Code Enforcement responded to the area to help make sure the proper clean up happens.
