Eventually, the driver lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a wooden pole on Sweetwater Road in Chula Vista. Meanwhile, the two passengers ran away, but they were tracked by the helicopter team and apprehended a short time later.
All three teenagers, whose identities have not been released due to their age, were arrested on charges of auto theft and possession of stolen property. The driver of the vehicle also faces an additional charge of evading arrest with wanton disregard for safety. Two of the juveniles were booked into Juvenile Hall, including the driver and one passenger with a prior criminal history.
The third passenger was released into the custody of a parent. The investigation into the stolen vehicle and its occupants is still ongoing.
