This document presents a second edition of a multilingual database aimed at enhancing information literacy for speakers of various languages, including Esperanto.
It details updates made to improve user experience, such as the inclusion of language names in their native scripts and enhanced categorization of resources. The database serves as a practical tool for individuals seeking to develop their information literacy skills, with a focus on practical tutorials over theoretical content, and features resources in less widely represented languages.
By 'open access' to this literature, we mean its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself.
The only constraint on reproduction and distribution, and the only role for copyright in this domain, should be to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited. The International Guidelines on Information Literacy have been compiled on behalf of the Information Literacy Section of IFLA, with the aim of providing a pragmatic framework to those professionals who need or are interested in starting an information literacy program from scratch.
The guidelines will help libraries to guide their work to meet current information needs of those who are engaged in educational programs, that is school and higher education. However, most of the concepts, principles and procedures can be applied with some adaptation to any library setting. Information competencies are vital for success in life-long learning education and are also vital for any citizen in their jobs and interactions of daily life. Therefore, libraries of all types require to focus the main part of their efforts to facilitate information competencies in their users.
