According to a lieutenant at the scene, Phoenix police responded to reports of two people with gunshot wounds just before 2 a. Police learned that the man and woman were initially shot at a home near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road. The victims attempted to drive themselves to the hospital but ended up stopping near Interstate 17 to call Both victims have non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, later identified as Luis Lopez Gutierrez, 28, fled the scene south on I, where Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers and police officers followed him to the Marana area, which is just north of Tucson. He was barricaded inside a vehicle with a gun, but troopers took Lopez Gutierrez into custody around 7 a. The barricade situation prompted authorities to close I in both directions near Cortaro Road for several hours.

Lopez Gutierrez now faces multiple felony charges including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, illegally discharging a firearm at a structure, unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits, and misconduct involving weapons.
