Eric Caleb Carlson, 43, of Wichita is charged with one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. According to court documents, Synchronoss Technologies submitted two reports in June to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children NCMEC regarding uploads of files containing child sexual abuse and exploitation materials to its cloud-based backup service.
An investigation led law enforcement authorities to identify and arrest Carlson. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
