The Sandy Springs Police Department is investigating an officer for possibly violating departmental policy while conducting prostitution stings. In reports dated Aug.
Mayberry wrote explicit accounts of the actions he took in building cases against two suspected prostitutes. Those actions included engaging in sexual acts and intercourse. The first prostitution suspect, age 24, was apprehended by three officers after a short foot chase. She told police she had been arrested for prostitution in DeKalb County less than a year ago and was wanted on a larceny warrant from that county.
She provided police with limited information about weapons and narcotics traffickers and other prostitutes who operate through the craigslist. One of the arresting officers was Lt. Jim Fraker, who was reprimanded during a July investigation into officers accepting gifts from citizens and abusing off-duty jobs. The second prostitution suspect is a year-old Brazilian immigrant who was arrested along with a female accomplice.
The accomplice was charged with conspiracy to commit prostitution. Police announced the investigation Oct. Sult replaced Maj. David Bertrand as chief. Bertrand held the post on an interim basis after Chief Gene Wilson resigned during the July investigation into the department.
