To be expected, after all, from a room dominated by a lively bar scene defined by hearty camaraderie, not intimate musings. Only the crab cake begged for revision.
But when the star of the plate is filler, the price becomes debatable. It did. So did the chowder. The skewer of five grilled shrimp was fine; decently cooked, though room temperature. But the promised tropical fruit turned out to be canned mandarin oranges and less-than-fresh cubes of cantaloupe and honeydew melon along with a couple of tired strawberries. The accompanying raspberry vinaigrette was unusually dense but tasted good.
Sadly, the puppy love waned with the first cut into a less-than-crisp shredded potato topping and overcooked salmon. The mornay, however, sparkled with good flavor, but that sour cream-and-chive butter was missing in action.
We opted for its components of shrimp, scallops and a fish fillet mahi-mahi in our case , broiled. For the most part, the platter was OK β no more, no less. Cooked without being dried out, but with little flavor or significance to remember it by. Still-firm steamed fresh vegetables were a welcome addition to some of our dinners. While there are menu items worth ordering, there are an equal number of disappointments.
