Deputies started investigating Sara Joyce Powell two weeks ago, after receiving information that she was bringing contraband into the jail. Officials said that they determined Powell had smuggled goods to inmates between August and January Deputies did not share what kind of contraband Powell was distributing, or how many inmates were involved. Powell was fired Thursday, after having worked as a deputy since August Powell was charged with one count of misconduct in office and one count of furnishing contraband into a detention facility.
