Birth attendants, childbirth assistants, labor support professionals or birth companions, support the birthing person and partner. The support provided is emotional, physical, non-medical and informational during pregnancy, labor, birth, and immediately after the arrival of the newborn. A birth attendant does not replace the partner.
A birth attendant helps take the pressure off of the partner to facilitate and support the experience. The birth assistants role is to assist with the transition from being pregnant to being with baby after it journey to this world.
