We have more newsletters. A website that allows men to leave reviews of escorts has given a glimpse into the grim reality of sex work in Cambridge. The reviews include what the men thought of the women, going into frank and explicit detail about their bodies, what their manner was like and if they were 'value for money'. They also include other details like the quality of the location used, how good the bed was and even how difficult the woman's pimp was to deal with.
Reviewers are encouraged to tell the "story" of their visit on the site. Positive reviews read like a porn mag, with a glowing description of the woman, or her body at least, and an explicit narrative of what happened. The negative reviews were completely different, often with a tirade of abusive language and included phrases like "past her best". There were other disturbing reviews on the site that we wouldn't publish. More worrying though is the obvious abuse these women are suffering at the hands of these men who clearly understand nothing about consent.
The atmosphere in many of the reviews was 'I've paid for two hours, so that's what I'm getting'. Cambridgeshire Constabulary regularly take action against people they suspect are engaging in exploitation, modern slavery and human trafficking. Always call in an emergency. In one of the most shocking reviews a man explains how he was so aggressive during sex with one woman that she left the room in tears. His response was that if she couldn't handle it she shouldn't be a sex worker.
He said another woman took over from the first, and he was with her for the remainder of the time he had paid for. Still he was angry at what he called "time wasting tactics" that he claimed both women were using.
He said the first woman had been "polite" but was "a bit distant and moody". The idea that she didn't want to have sex with him evidently wasn't something he was concerned about. The reviews also highlight how many of Cambridge sex workers are likely victims of sex trafficking.
