There is an urgent need for global guidance on effective, culturally appropriate, and sustainable psychosocial interventions for mental disorders in low- and middle-income countries LMICs.
While the burden of mental illness in LMICs is now well established, there remains a significant treatment gap for mental disorders, particularly for psychotic disorders in sub-Saharan Africa. Family psychoeducation FPE is an evidence-based practice developed in high-income countries to help individuals with psychotic disorders and their relatives to cope more effectively with the illness; however, FPE has never been tested in a low-resource country nor have the mechanisms of action for this psychosocial intervention been fully identified.
This project will pilot test a culturally tailored Family Psychoeducation model FamPE for adults with psychotic disorders and their relatives. Skip to main content. Topics: Health policy and systems , Mental health.
