I now do emergency management consulting after 30 years in the military.
I like it a lot. I set my own hours mostly I'm pretty much my own boss. Lot's of flexibility. No weekends. So compared to the last 30 years, I have infinitely more flexibility and time off. I'm an attorney and I like my job. Now, I also understand that I'm never going to be a baller given how I've structured things, but I am comfortable with lots of flexibility in my day to day schedule and I don't have to worry about too much stress or moral conflicts. Self-employed with a few companies I own or am partnered in. Contract bank internal auditor with a partner and a small staff for a few days a week. Bank board member for a few days a month. Owner of a company that owns a 60 acre "tree" farm that "requires'" several days and long weekends in the fall, and a few hours a quarter during the rest of the year.
