At the conclusion of the event UTD awarded two full scholarships โ including tuition, fees and a housing stipend โ to high school senior Gemma Smith of Weatherford, the Texas winner, and junior Bill Anderson of Corvallis, Ore. More than teams elementary though university level , made up of more than 8, students from 47 states and 15 countries, competed in the tournament and could choose from among five categories โ A Change in Direction, ConnecDId!
In addition to preparing for their own events, the students spent many hours working with elementary and secondary teams from schools in the Dallas area.
The UTD students also hosted nearly 50 teams at two separate workshops in January and volunteered as scorekeepers and appraisers at regional competitions.
The former category involved creating a live theater production that included disruptions, mishaps and interventions, and the later category called on students to create a live 3-D video game adventure with different levels and rewards.
The second challenge concerned system integration โ creating an original technical device that could be rebuilt into a second device that performed different functions than the first.
