P lotlines were aplenty in The Vampire Diaries , as it spanned eight long seasons. A new supernatural species continuously plagued Mystic Falls, Elena was the target of a new villain, and the characters were falling in love with each other all the time in the town.
Sometimes, these seemingly countless plotlines did not get the focus and attention they deserved. Whether the writers chose to gloss over them or more important stories got the focus, these ignored plotlines had a lot of potential. They gave viewers an insight into histories of some characters like Damon and Stefan or involved new and interesting characters that fans wanted to know more about.
These plotlines were given a minimal amount of attention in The Vampire Diaries , and they deserved much more. When The Originals entered The Vampire Diaries , many older vampires from their sire lines were introduced to viewers. Sage was one of the oldest vampires ever, as she was the first one turned by Finn after he became an Original. In a flashback, viewers saw that Sage and Damon had known each other, and she had shaped his vampiric identity for him.
Sage was born in the late 11th Century and was a professional boxer in Sage had met Damon in , and shown him how to feed on people and also derive pleasure from it. She was integral to Damon's way of functioning as a vampire, and it would have been intriguing to see more of their journey together. One short flashback was simply not enough to see Damon's initial years as a vampire and how Sage impacted him for the rest of his immortal life.
Elena believed that she was Grayson and Miranda Gilbert's daughter until Isobel stepped into the picture. Isobel was Alaric's wife, who had left him mysteriously and disappeared. She was also Elena's biological mother -- Isobel had given birth to her when she was young, and left Elena in the care of the Gilberts. Isobel Flemming was born on October 17, , and turned by Damon in Isobel asked Damon to be turned into a vampire and then got friendly with Katherine.
