Edwin Edilberto Briones Lopez Jr. Authorities said that Lopez had tried in June to rape a year-old woman after asking her for jumper cables to start his car in Daly City. In November , a jury decided he was not guilty of attempted rape and kidnapping with intent to commit rape. After telling her to stop, he demanded money and sex, said chief deputy district attorney Steve Wagstaffe. But the quick-thinking woman reportedly convinced Lopez to remove a child seat from the rear of the car so there would be more room for sex.
While he was taking out the seat, she escaped, Wagstaffe said. Allen said Lopez is glad that he will get out of prison before his 4-year-old daughter graduates from high school.
Lopez got just a fraction of the life sentence he would have faced if he had been convicted of all charges, Allen said.
