From sexual harassment to cryptocurrency, tech workers have plenty to talk about this year. And thousands of techies, including some from Microsoft, Google and Facebook, are getting the inside scoop on the anonymous chat app Blind. Founded in , Blind now has users from more than 3, companies. This interview has been edited for clarity and length. Q: Blind users spend an average of 41 minutes on the app. How are tech workers using Blind and what are some of the most popular topics?
Moon: Most of our U. Many of them talk about compensation, salary, company environment and issues like sexual harassment. They also talk about trending issues like cryptocurrencies or investments. Q: You mentioned sexual harassment.
As allegations of sexual harassment including in the tech industry continue to surface, are more users talking about this topic than they have in the past? Moon: It was always a hot issue. They talked about sexual harassment about two years ago and what companies should do. Actually, our users get information in the tech scene faster than the news media. One interesting thing is we got about 40, Microsoft employees, 20, Amazon employees and 10, Google employees on Blind.
Our penetration for each company is pretty high and most of the employees are very active users. Q: Does Microsoft have the most users on the app? How did it become so popular among Microsoft employees? We flew to Seattle and did another beta launch with Amazon and it went pretty well. Then we launched with neighboring tech giant Microsoft. When we had traction at both companies, we merged them into a place called Tech Lounge, which is an industry message board.
When you write something, your company name is attached to it so you can basically add other companies as well. Moon: We cover about 15 industries in Korea, such as construction, so there are more topics than in the United States. They talk more about issues such as politics, dating and finance. Kim: We have more than 40, employees at LG Electronics and we have more than 15, at Samsung Electronics as well.
